Brittany Brown

Brittany is a program associate for Vera’s Restoring Promise initiative. Prior to joining Vera, she spent nearly seven years with the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) working with incarcerated young adults to provide programming, case management, and counseling services. In her most recent position with SCDC, she served as the program coordinator for the Cadre of H.O.P.E. Restoring Promise community, where she collaborated with corrections staff and incarcerated residents to develop units that prioritize family engagement, mentorship, personal development, restorative justice practices, and reentry preparation. Brittany also has a background in journalism, media studies, crisis negotiation, and mental health. She researched and published on representations of Black women in media as well as issues of ethics and equity in corporate and public communication. She holds an MS in clinical mental health counseling from Walden University, an MA in media studies from Pennsylvania State University, and a BA in mass communications from Claflin University.
