Resolving cases in a timely manner
In Multnomah County (Portland), Oregon, District Attorney Rod Underhill says most misdemeanor cases are resolved within 90 days, while most felonies are resolved within six months. Oregon has a strong speedy trial statute, but the jurisdiction’s ability to meet the timelines can be attributed to timely filing of police reports with the prosecutors’ office at the time of arrest and judges who hold the parties to statutory deadlines.[]For Oregon’s speedy trial statute, see Oregon Revised Statutes §§ 135.745 to 135.752 (2014).
