The Vera Institute of Justice (Vera) announces applications are now available for the second cohort of the Corrections Education Leadership Academy.

Vera is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the second cohort of the Corrections Education Leadership Academy (CELA).

Vera, with funding from the Ascendium Education Group, created this leadership academy to provide corrections education leaders an opportunity to dig deep into their field. CELA will begin in April 2022 and include monthly sessions held online. Given the pandemic, CELA will hold one three-day in-person training at Vera’s Brooklyn office when it is safe to do so. CELA is provided at no cost to participants or their agencies. Travel and accommodations for the in-person training will be provided.

Vera encourages current state education directors and their staff as well as corrections education leaders at colleges and higher education authorities to apply.

Over the course of one year, a cohort of 10-12 corrections education leaders will examine:

  • preparing for Pell reinstatement
  • addressing issues of race, equity, and inclusion
  • statewide corrections policy and alignment
  • leveraging data and research
  • principles of workforce development
  • innovations in pre-college education
  • incorporating and expanding secure educational technology
  • partnering with colleges and community-based organizations
  • developing memoranda of understanding with colleges and reentry providers
  • working with legislators and shaping legislative policy
  • other issues identified by the cohort for study

CELA will begin April 2022. Applications are due January 14, 2022. Cohort members will be notified February 11, 2022.

We encourage all interested to apply and join this second cohort. Vera will be offering this academy for the next several years, so if 2022 is not a good year to apply, please consider the year after.
