Since 2013, Nick Turner has led the Vera Institute of Justice with bold vision and deep integrity. Under his leadership, Vera emerged as a defining force in the justice reform movement, advancing landmark achievements including the restoration of access to federal financial aid for incarcerated students, the creation of a national legal defense network for people facing deportation, and the development of a blueprint for a more humane and dignified approach to incarceration. Nick has ensured that Vera not only pushes back against direct attacks on the Institute but leads and organizes partners across the country to fight for justice and, ultimately, our democracy.

As Turner concludes his service as president and director, he leaves behind a Vera that is better equipped to meet the urgent challenges of this moment and a legacy of principled leadership in the pursuit of safety, justice, and democracy.
