We know you're busy and, with more options than ever before, may not have the time to sit down and figure out what criminal justice media to check out. We're here to help! That’s why, along with Vera’s the release of its second-annual interactive report, The State of Justice Reform 2018, the Vera Institute of Justice will host the Best of Justice Reform Awards on February 21 in Los Angeles. Alongside special guests like actors Alyssa Milano and Matt McGorry, activist and podcast host DeRay Mckesson, and two-time NBA All Star Caron Butler, we’ll be honoring and celebrating key justice-related podcasts, books, documentaries, and social media influencers from 2018.
In addition to announcing the awards, those special guests will also be participating in conversations about various aspects of the criminal justice system. The topics include:
- How Our Current Criminal Justice System Fails People - Matt McGorry and MILPA's John Pineda
- A Year of Immigration Representation + Activism - Alyssa Milano and Vera’s Michelle Parris
- The Movement To Protect Kids Who Are Incarcerated - Caron Butler and Vera’s Alex Frank
- The Power of Digital Media to Drive Social Change - DeRay Mckesson and Vera’s Kindred Motes
This multimedia event will bring together researchers, experts, advocates, activists, filmmakers, artists, and other creatives. You don’t want to miss it! Capacity is limited, so if interested please RSVP. Suggested attire is festive cocktail.
