Vera Institute of Justice

Alex Roth is a senior program associate with Vera’s Beyond Jails initiative, helping jurisdictions reduce the number of people incarcerated in their local jails. Alex has worked with sites across the country and played a key role in helping Oklahoma County reduce its jail population by more than 30 percent in a year, by relocating for seven months to work on implementing recommended reforms there.

Before joining Vera in 2016, Alex worked for the New Hampshire public defender for 13 years, representing indigent clients in juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony cases, and he was a member of the administrative team for a local mental health court program.

Alex holds a BA in art history from Vassar College, an MA in art history from Harvard University, and a JD from Columbia University.
