We are thrilled to invite you to Paid in Full: Ending Money Injustice in New Orleans, an exciting evening of music, conversation, and community engagement that we are co-hosting with Global Citizen and RFK Human Rights on July 3rd in New Orleans. Emceed by Brittany Packnett, civil rights activist and co-host of the award-winning Pod Save the People, and featuring musical performances from the Brass-A-Holics, Soul Creole, and Grammy-winning Hot 8 Brass Band, the event will be a celebration of the strength of community support to end the harmful practice of money bail and conviction fees – or money injustice, as we’re calling it – in New Orleans.

Money injustice has long plagued New Orleans, funneling too many people, particularly Black people, into our local jails. However, we’re now at a unique moment of opportunity for reform. Paid In Full coincides with a new report that Vera released which presents a thorough and clear plan to eliminate financial barriers to justice for New Orleanians and make the entire community safer.

In between musical performances, you’ll get to hear from community activists, local justice reform advocates, and civic leaders – including President of the Foundation for Louisiana Flozell Daniels, and Executive Director of the ACLU of Louisiana Alanah Hebert, just to name a few – about concrete steps New Orleans can take to become the first city in America to completely eliminate money injustice. Together, we have the power to reduce the number of people languishing in jails by nearly half.

The event will take place at the Historic Carver Theater on Wednesday, July 3rd, from 6-8pm CT, and is free and open to the public. Get your tickets today.

Nobody should have to sit in jail because they can’t afford the price of their freedom. We hope the evening inspires the change New Orleans can and should achieve, and helps spark a movement to end money injustice across the country.

See you there!
