We are working to design an easily accessible data visualization tool that collates and analyzes publicly available, but disparately located, data on various law enforcement-related indicators pertaining to enforcement and other points of interest. This project builds off of the successes of Vera’s Incarceration Trends project, and will allow a broad group of stakeholders to better understand data related to policing, at both a national and localized level. The first phase of this project includes visualizing U.S. arrests by location, race, age, gender, and offense type, as well as reported versus unreported crime, and the rate at which reported crimes result in associated arrests. This work is funded through the generous internal support from the Vera Institute of Justice’s capital campaign, and external support from Microsoft Cities Team—Civic Engagement and the Charles Koch Foundation.
