Social and legal service agencies in California, Colorado, New York, Texas and Washington State with vast expertise in working with victim populations were active partners in the research and development of the tool. Conducting research with victim service providers, survivors of trafficking, and law enforcement officials ensured that the screening tool can be implemented effectively.

Use of the Trafficking Victim Identification Tool by victim service providers, law enforcement, health care professionals, child welfare workers and others can generate more reliable knowledge of indicators of trafficking, and will allow for better detection of victims and speedier connections to needed resources for survivors of trafficking.
