Zameena Mejia

Zameena Mejia works as the communications manager for Vera’s Advancing Universal Representation initiative in the communications and external affairs department. In this role, she manages strategic communications that support the initiative’s goal to establish a local, state, and federal right to universal representation for all people facing deportation and to diminish racial disparities among people affected by the U.S. immigration system.

Before joining Vera, Zameena worked with the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) as the organization’s racial and gender justice press strategist. With NDWA and its 501(c)(4) organization Care in Action, she helped organize worker-led advocacy events with President Biden; Senators Harris, Sanders, and Warren; and other members of Congress. She also served as communications director to New York State Senators Jessica Ramos and Brian Kavanagh.

Zameena holds a BA in journalism and Latin American studies from the State University of New York at New Paltz and an MA in business reporting from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism.
