Walter Castaneda


Walter Castaneda is a philanthropy officer in Vera's development department, managing a portfolio of primarily East Coast-based major donors and family foundations. Walter works to build authentic and long-term relationships with philanthropists, involving them in Vera’s critical mission to end mass incarceration.

Walter joined Vera in 2023, bringing more than seven years of diverse fundraising experience, including with digital, major gifts, and special events. Organizations he has worked with include State Voices, the Ali Forney Center, and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

Outside of Vera, Walter volunteers as the director of fundraising for the National LGBTQ Task Force; events he has planned include the Winter Party Festival in Miami, which raises over $1.3M annually. He is also a founder of The San Diego Pride's LGBTQIA+ Survivor Task Force, which helps LGBTQ+ survivors of sexual and relationship violence overcome barriers to care.

Walter holds a BS in business administration and marketing from California State University, Long Beach.
