Maria Isabel Garcia Diaz works as the senior innovation associate for the innovation team within Vera’s Impact Pipeline, guiding Verans through a 90-day learning cycle to conceptualize ideas that can be scaled for national impact and support Vera’s mission.

Before joining Vera in 2022, Maria worked in the Mayor’s Office of Performance and Innovation in the City of Baltimore, where she led design-based strategies across a range of projects focused on the city’s COVID-19 response, city cleanliness, digital equity, and criminal justice. She was also involved in guiding Mayor Brandon Scott and his executive team in creating goals and priorities for his first term in office.

Outside of Vera, Maria spends time learning how to make pottery and tending to her indoor and outdoor plants.

Maria holds a BA in international studies from Johns Hopkins University and an MA in social design from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
