Maria Isabel Garcia Diaz

Maria Isabel Garcia Diaz is a designer, facilitator, and strategist practicing people-centered design to address trust, access, and well-being. Before joining Vera, Maria was the civic designer for the Innovation Team in Baltimore as part of the Mayor’s Office of Performance & Innovation. She guided her team and stakeholders through the design process to address leadership priorities and create interventions to foster positive social change. Her projects focused on youth diversion, city cleanliness, COVID-19 communications, language access, and digital equity. Prior to then, Maria worked in Baltimore nonprofits focused on community development and managed community-based programming for beautification projects and community engagement. Maria received her MA in social design from Maryland Institute College of Art and BA in international studies with a minor in economics from Johns Hopkins University. She is originally from Bogotá, Colombia, grew up in the Tampa Bay area in Florida, and currently lives in Baltimore. Maria enjoys working through her cookbook collection, creating and trying new art mediums, and learning from and being around nature and people.
