Laura Montes
Laura Montes is a program analyst for Vera’s Advancing Universal Representation initiative, a national movement to establish a federal right to representation for all immigrants facing deportation.
Before joining Vera, Laura worked with the International Rescue Committee as their adult education intern. There, she spearheaded a more effective Cultural Orientation Exchange program to connect newly arrived immigrants with resources such as public education and health care services.
Outside of work, Laura advocates for social justice, from higher education reform, by mentoring low-income, first-generation college students, to environmental justice, by informing BIPOC communities of the impacts of disproportionate environmental hazards.
Laura graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo as a first-generation student with a BA in sociomedical sciences with minors in anthropology and women’s and gender studies.
