Katie Hunter-Lowrey
Katie Hunter-Lowrey is a senior program associate with Vera Louisiana, working to build power statewide for policies and investments that make communities safer.
Previously, Katie was a lead organizer and policy advocate at the Promise of Justice Initiative, where she directed Louisiana Survivors for Reform (LSR), a coalition of survivors of violence and victims’ loved ones dedicated to changing the state criminal legal system. LSR recently advocated for the unanimous passage of legislation improving accessibility to the Crime Victims Reparations Fund, making Louisiana the third state without police reporting requirements for survivors seeking financial support. Katie has over 15 years of experience working in New Orleans’s service industry, local organizing efforts, and government, including leading constituent outreach and communications strategy for then-City Councilmember At Large Jason Williams.
They are a longtime organizer of Nola to Angola, an annual cycling fundraiser connecting incarcerated people and their families.
Katie holds a BA from the University of New Orleans.
