Derek Lowry

Derek Lowry was a program associate in Vera’s Center on Sentencing and Corrections. He provided technical assistance to college and state agencies that seek insight on postsecondary education expansion in prisons. Prior to joining Vera, Derek worked on a range of justice issues at the Council of State Governments Justice Center; the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE); and the Sillerman Center for the Advancement of Philanthropy. He has authored reports for the Bureau of Justice Assistance, created GIS-products that document racial equity, and been the co-director of a direct-service reentry nonprofit. Derek has an MPP in poverty alleviation from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management in Brandeis University and holds a BA in English from the University of South Carolina. He also has various training and teaching certificates from his time as a Peace Corps volunteer and educator.
