Dean M. Esserman is chief of police in New Haven, Connecticut. From 2003 through June 2011 he served as police chief in Providence, Rhode Island. Prior to that he was the police chief in Stamford, Connecticut.
From 1993 to 1998, Esserman was the chief of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Metro North Police Department in New York. From 1991 to 1993, he was assistant chief of police in New Haven, Connecticut, and from 1987 to 1991 he served as counsel to Chief William Bratton of the New York City Transit Police.
Esserman began his career as an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, New York. He joined Vera's Board of Trustees in 2005.
