Vera Institute of Justice

Aiden Cotter is a senior program associate with a focus on pretrial justice. His work at Vera focuses on pretrial system reform efforts across the country and advising jurisdictions on sound pretrial policy that protects public safety while promoting fairness.

Before joining Vera, Aiden worked as a public defender for nearly a decade with both the Legal Aid Society of New York City and the Office of the Public Defender in Colorado. Witnessing firsthand the devastation the broken legal system has inflicted on the lives of so many instilled an eagerness in him to engage in work meant to reimagine the system.

Aiden holds a JD from Brooklyn Law School.
