I retired from the Washington State Department of Corrections in 2009, as a Deputy director for Prisons. I am interested in pursuing research, with a few collageaus of mine, in this field. I developed and delivered a training program for staff that work with female offenders. During my tenure, I was Superintendent of a female facility as well as a male facilty, and lastly had oversight of three female institutions. I believe the past trauma that female offenders experience due to their significant abusive history needs to be reviewed in more depth. In addition I have found that staff who work with this population have similiar trauma histories as the offenders. I also teach as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Washington,Tacoma, Wa. Has there been any research done by the institute regarding the later issue?
