Vera’s experts conduct research and analysis and develop policies and programs in a variety of criminal and social justice fields. Their varied knowledge, background, and experience enable Vera to address the full spectrum of national and local justice issues.

Research Analyst, Substance Use and Mental Health
Talia Sandwick joined Vera in June 2009 to as a research analyst for the Substance Use and Mental Health Program. She received a BA in psychology and English from Georgetown University. Prior to coming to Vera, she worked as a research assistant at Georgetown University’s Center for Research on Adolescents, Women, and the Law. While there she played a major role on a project that applied concepts of procedural justice to understanding the experiences of juveniles in detention. She also acted as the project coordinator on a national study analyzing videotapes of police interrogations of juveniles. Before entering the realm of criminal justice research, Talia worked as a research assistant at the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where she worked as a project coordinator on a study of an audio-recorded cognitive assessment. At Vera, Talia conducts research on a variety of issues concerning substance use and mental health in the criminal justice system.
