Laura Negrón joined Vera in April 2010 to serve as director of the Guardianship Project. She has more than 30 years of public interest experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, community relations, and program development across a variety of areas including elder care, youth programs, higher education, government, social services, and the law. Most recently, Laura worked as a staff attorney with the Office of the Nassau County Attorney. She was also dean of institutional advancement for Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus and a Charles Revson Public Interest Fellow at Human Rights Watch. Laura is the author of “Gender and Education in Post-Apartheid South Africa: Possibilities and Limitations of the International Human Rights Framework,” published in the East African Journal on Peace and Human Rights. She holds both a master’s degree in social work from Hunter College and a JD from the City University of New York’s School of Law, where she was managing editor of its New York City Law Review. She is a member of the New York State Bar.
