New Publications

  • In New York City, no public guardianship system exists to provide services to indigent people who are incapacitated, so the Vera Institute implemented the Guardianship Project incorporating national best practices for care. Vera researchers have studied the project’s implementation and provide a preliminary description of the program’s structure, services, and client needs in a new report.
  • To learn how victims of domestic violence experience New York State's innovative Integrated Domestic Violence courts, Vera researchers interviewed women who had cases at different stages in the Queens IDV Court. They discuss their findings in a recent report, Enhancing Safety and Justice for Victims of Domestic Violence.
  • In the latest issue of Just 'Cause, learn what Vera is doing to help New Orleans reform its criminal justice system and how Vera's Washington DC Office is developing standards to reduce rape in prison. Plus, read about Vera's presence in crim-im, an emerging field where immigration and the criminal justice system intersect.

Overview

Vera produces a wide range of publications, all with the aim of making the Institute's work accessible and useful—not just to policy analysts or social scientists but to anyone with an interest in the topic.

In recent years, Vera's publications, mirroring its work, have focused on a broad range of subjects, from juvenile gun courts to programs for prisoners nearing release. Vera's large research department generates reports on every study the Institute undertakes, many of which focus on our own demonstration projects.

Vera has posted new publications on the web in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) since 1996, and we've abstracted many of our more important older publications. By using our publications search form, you can find Vera publications matching your interests. You may search by keyword, author, or title, or browse our publications by the five subject areas and the five approaches that characterize Vera's work. Whether you navigate the list by category or keyword, you will be able to read a brief abstract and, for many of the reports available in PDF format, a single-page executive summary of the main findings before choosing to download the entire document. If the report you wish to read was published before 1996, or if you want a printed copy of a recent report, you can order copies.

To help you keep up with our new publications, we issue a regular e-mail update announcing new Vera publications that will alert you whenever one is released.

The Louis Schweitzer Library. The complete collection of Vera reports, covering the Institute's forty years of work, is housed in the Louis Schweitzer Library.
