The 2009 Criminal Justice Transition Coalition, a national group of prominent criminal justice experts, recently published a comprehensive set of criminal justice policy recommendations for the new administration and Congress. Their report, Smart on Crime: Recommendations for the Next Administration and Congress, cites the work that Vera’s D.C. office is doing to improve prison oversight through the Corrections Support and Accountability Project. The report also cites a recommendation from Vera’s Commission on Safety and Abuse in America’s Prisons, which calls for legislation to track former prisoners’ reentry success.
Vera established an office in Washington D.C., to bring its unique expertise more directly to bear on important national policy debates related to the administration of justice.
