A report published today from the Campaign for Youth Justice finds a five-year trend showing that fewer children are being tried in adults courts, reports USA Today. Studies that show that young people's brains are not mature until their early 20s are driving the change in policy.
The story also quotes Annie Salsich, director of Vera's Center on Youth Justice:
"There's an increasing acknowledgement that we need to treat children as children," Salsich says. "There's a philosophical shift that's driven by the research."
