Jon Wool, director of Vera's New Orleans office, called the city's Expedited Screening Initiative a "model for reform" in a story about a recent meeting of the New Orleans city council at which the efforts of the city's district attorney and public defender to improve the criminal justice system were discussed. Both Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro and Chief Public Defender Derwyn Bunton informed the council that the participation of the criminal district court judges in the reform efforts was necessary to keep moving forward.
