Writing about the problem of racial disparity in prosecution in Ohio, columnist Krista Ramsey reports that the Cincinnati-based Ohio Justice & Policy Center has proposed a joint project with the Hamilton County Prosecutor's office to study the role of race in various stages of the criminal justice process. Ramsey says that the project hopes to partner with Wayne McKenzie, director of Vera's Prosecution and Racial Justice Program, to review prosecutorial practices and analyze statistics related to the play of race in their cases.
"OJPC officials say the study will help ensure prosecutors have the right data to evaluate how justice is carried out in regard to race. They say it will give the public a chance to see how decisions are made within the justice system."
