The Sioux City Journal includes an editorial praising the Storm Lake Police Department for its work in developing programs to work with the city's linguistically diverse population. Some of the department's policies and practices were recognized by the Vera Institute in a 2009 publication about best practices for law enforcement in addressing language barriers.
