This article—with an audio clip from Delaware Governor Jack Markell's press conference this morning—reports on a new initiative to make the state's criminal justice system more effective and more efficient. The newly launched Delaware Justice Reinvestment Task Force will work with the Vera Institute of Justice on a project funded by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance.
Governor Markell said the state seeks to answer the following questions through the Delaware Justice Reinvestment Initiative: "Can we do a better job in the criminal justice system? And secondly, are we prepared to talk about how we spend our public safety dollars and how we can best spend public safety dollars to improve public safety?"
