The News Journal's Chad Livengood reports on a new Delaware criminal justice task force and on the Delaware Justice Reinvestment Initiative, a collaboration with the Vera Institute of Justice that aims to make the justice system more efficient and more effective.
"Despite cutbacks in recent years, the Department of Correction's $254 million budget for the 2012 fiscal year is up 40 percent from 2002," the article states. "The annual cost to incarcerate an inmate in Delaware rose from $28,000 in 2005 to $34,000 in 2010, according to the Department of Correction."
Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn "indicated he will keep the task force focused on the goal of improving public safety in Delaware and not delve into turf wars that are common in the criminal justice system."
