Today's New York Times includes an AP story that reports that more US police departments are trying to hire more bilingual officers. Some have begun offering raises, and some have begun language immersion programs. The story quotes Susan Shah, who has led Vera's Translating Justice work that tries to identify policies and practices that can help law enforcement agencies and communities bridge language gaps.
