The New York Times reports that violent crime in the United States is at its lowest rate in 40 years, which is surprising experts who typically expect violent crime to increase during a recession. New York City's violent crime rate has recently increased, however, but this is after the city's violent crime rate has been dropping more quickly than other places. Vera's director, Michael Jacobson, said “It’s been so huge, there’s always been this lingering question, how low could it go?”
