New York Review of Books, "The rape of American prisoners"
Published: Feb 10 2010
The New York Review of Books has released the first in a two-part story about rape in America's adult and juvenile prisons. The story discusses the pervasivness of sexual abuse and assualt in these facilities and the underreporting of such incidences. The story cites several times the final report of the National Prison Rape Elimination Commission, which Vera staff worked with to develop standards to detect, prevent, and respond to sexual assault in jails, prisons, lock-ups, and immigration, juvenile, and community-corrections facilities.
The second part of the story will discuss NPREC's report in depth.
