The Council of State Governments' Capitol Ideas reports on the increasing number of older people in prisons. The story cites Vera's It's About Time: Aging Prisoners, Increasing Costs, and Geriatric Release and quotes the report's author, Tina Chiu:
"Chiu said states should develop pilot projects to determine what needs exist. “A lot of work on re-entry is not done with this demographic in mind,” she said. “We might need to see more programs developed around what older people will face” if released. That includes housing, employment and family support, which might have changed drastically while the person was in prison, she said."
