We are delighted to announce that Eric H. Holder, Jr., attorney general of the United States, will be delivering Vera’s third Annual Justice Address on Thursday, July 9, 2009.

Prior to his nomination by President Barack Obama, Attorney General Holder was a litigation partner at Covington & Burling LLP in Washington, DC. Earlier, he served as deputy attorney general under President Clinton and as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. In 1988 he was nominated by President Reagan to become an associate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

Mr. Holder’s many civic commitments have included service on the boards of Columbia University, the National Center for Victims of Crime, and the Save the Children Foundation. He also served on the U.S. Sentencing Commission Ad Hoc Advisory Group.

Each year, Vera’s Annual Justice Address features a prominent national figure who explores important justice issues of our time. Previous speakers include Nicholas deB Katzenbach, who served as attorney general under President Lyndon Johnson, and James B. Comey, who was deputy attorney general under President George W. Bush.
