  Internships

Vera runs an annual summer internship program for undergraduate, graduate, and law school students. Interns typically work full time in one of Vera’s departments or centers; some part-time positions may be available. In addition to working on individual assignments, all interns participate in events organized by the internship coordinator; in the past interns have visited Sing Sing Correctional Facility, lunched with executive-level management, and visited Vera demonstration projects.

To apply please submit a resume and cover letter to:

Vera Institute of Justice
233 Broadway,12th Floor
New York, NY 10279
Fax: 212-941-9407
Email: intern.summer2008@vera.org

The cover letter should state two placement preferences and dates of availability. All applications are due by March 1, 2008 (DC applications are due March 17). Applications received after the deadline will be considered if internships remain unfilled after all on-time applications have been considered.

Note: Prospective interns are encouraged to seek independent funding either through an accredited four-year institution, or through fellowship grants or internship programs. For example, from The Everett Public Service Internship Program, of which Vera is a participating organization provides funding for two internships at Vera. Please visit Everett Internships for instructions on how to apply.

Vera is also able to offer funded internships through a grant from the Sulzberger Foundation. If you are interested in applying for one of these funded positions, please include your request in your cover letter.

Internships not covered by any of these options will be paid by the Vera Institute.
